Born in New Jersey, she studied at the Newark Academy, Sarah Lawrence College and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in England. There, she met and married tenor saxophonist Jim Tomlinson and they have collaborated musically ever since.
She garnered attention with performances at Café Boheme and Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club in London and made her recording debut in 1997 with 'Close Your Eyes'. Her 1999 release 'Love Is the Tender Trap' went to number 40 on Billboard's Jazz Albums Chart followed by 'Let Yourself Go' (2000), featuring songs made famous by Fred Astaire, which reached number nine.
'The Boy Next Door' (2003), with a mix of standards and pop-rock, made it to number 12, 'Breakfast On the Morning Tram' (2007) achieved number 21, 'Raconte-moi.' (2010), a French-language record, got to number 13, 'The Changing Lights' (2013) achieved number 49 and 'Tenderly' (2016), which also features songs from the Great American Songbook, went to number nine. Her 2017 recording 'I Know I Dream: The Orchestral Sessions', on which she sings with a 60-piece orchestra, peaked at number 15 on the Jazz Albums Chart.
