After several years honing his craft and playing in small bands in and around San Antonio, Montgomery rose to national attention through a 1999 appearance on PBS’ Austin City Limits. His world-class musicianship gained him a significant boost in exposure, and within only a few years he had been named one of Guitar Player Magazine’s Top 50 All-Time Greatest Guitar Players.
Montgomery has since been named Best Acoustic Guitar Player at the Austin Music Awards on seven consecutive occasions. He has also enjoyed a successful career in film and television, composing for ABC’s Last Man Standing and the 2006 crime drama Arc. He has been featured on Live from Daryl’s House with Daryl Hall, and in 2004 had a guitar named after him by Alvarez Guitars. He has released nearly a dozen studio albums including the critically acclaimed 1st & Repair and Wishing Well.
