Horizon League Basketball Tournament

The winner of the Horizon League Basketball Tournament receives the conference automatic bid to the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Tournament. It is a single-elimination tournament and the seeding is based on the Horizon League standings. The tournament began in 1980 and until 2002, it was entirely hosted in a single venue location. Through 2015, the Horizon League Championship was held at the home arena of the higher remaining seed. From 2016 until 2019, the tournament was held at the Joe Lewis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, with the women’s tournament held there as well. For two years, the Little Caesars Arena held the men’s and women’s basketball tournaments and in 2019, the conference moved the tournaments to the Indiana Farmers Coliseum in Indianapolis.
