The members are Tracy Sledge, Phil Gough, Billy Sherman, Mikey Ortiz and Nick Hernandez. They employ a variety of non-standard instruments, most notably the ukulele.
Common Sense came together in 1987 and quickly garnered a following in Orange County’s underground surf rock scene. They soon founded their own label, Common Sense Records, through which they released the majority of their albums. The group soon developed a reputation for eschewing the usual methods of success in the music industry, instead of making inroads and gaining exposure through a slew of commercials and sponsors. Their songs have been used in Mercury commercials and in the films Kingpin and Speed 2: Cruise Control.
Common Sense have given celebrated appearances on the Vans Warped Tour and at Willie Nelson’s Farm Aid, and performs regularly at the Belly Up Tavern in Solana Beach.
