Between 1999 and 2005, Paul Thorn released five more albums. However, he didn't reach the US charts until the debut of A Long Way from Tupelo in 2008. The album peaked at No. 191 on US charts.

Paul Thorn tickets rose in demand after the release of Pimps and Preachers in 2010. The album was highly acclaimed and earned the No. 83 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. In 2012, Paul Thorn debuted his album, What the Hell Is Going On. The album was declared the 12^th Most Played Album of 2012 by the Americana Music Association.

In 2018, Paul Thorn released Don't Let the Devil Ride, which included several covers of gospel songs. The album also featured prominent gospel musicians, including Bonnie Bishop, The McCrary Sisters and Blind Boys of Alabama. Additionally, the album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Blues Album Chart.
