O'Brien Stadium broke ground in 1968 and opened two years later. It was named after the longtime football and track & field coach, Maynard O'Brien, who won the school an IIAC football championship in 1948. O'Brien served the school for nine seasons. The stadium was designed by the architectural firm Atkins, Barrow & Graham, Inc. with a construction cost of $1.7 million.
