Melching Field opened on February 12, 1999, to a sold-out crowd of 2,874 spectators to cheer on the hometown Hatters against the University of Louisville. The Hatters squeaked out a victory with a final score of 4-3. The stadium was named after R. Dale Melching, one of the primary donors and Stetson alum. The stadium has a capacity of 2,500 spectators.
