The stadium was designed by the architectural firm of McMillan-Pazden-Smith with a construction cost of $14 million. The stadium was named after the Five Star Automotive Group after their multi-million dollar commitment to the athletic program. The president of the company, Charlie Cantrell, is also the president of the Mercer Athletic Foundation.
