Founded in 1971, the team was originally the Victoria Cougars, but moved to Prince George in 1994 and has the distinction of being the northernmost ice hockey franchise in the Canadian Hockey League. Under then coach Stan Butler, the team first made the playoffs in the 1996-1997 WHL season and competed for the Western Conference finals in 2007. The team has made the playoffs more than 10 times.
