The members are Kriss Tokaji, Emily Moon, Aaron Lecesne and Kimi Shelter.
The Starbenders first came together in 2013 when singer-songwriter and guitarist Shelter recruited the rest of the members to launch a new musical project. The members bonded over their shared vision of playing a vintage style of rock music reminiscent of acts like T. Rex, the New York Dolls and Mott the Hoople. Within only a few years they were signed to Institution Records, the label of Lady Gaga’s music director and guitarist Nico Constantine.
In 2014 The Starbenders released their eponymous debut album, which found success through the popularity of its lead single “Touch.” A slew of further singles the following year such as “Paper Beats Rock” and “Powder” continued to increase the group’s exposure, and by 2018 they had performed alongside Rosegarden Funeral Party and Alice in Chains. Noted for their community outreach, the band has performed at several charity concerts including those of Girls Rock Camp and Lost N Found Youth.
