He has previously played with hardcore punk bands, but it was that lifestyle that drove him to prison. When he started playing music again, he released two EP, in 2012, before forming a band and signing with Relapse Records. Guilty of Everything, the band’s first full album, was released in 2014. Nothing has since gone through numerous roster rotations and released three more albums, all with the same label, Tired of Tomorrow (2016), Dance on the Blacktop (2018), and The Great Dismal (2020).

While Nothing is indie rock and has slowcore, noise rock and grunge influences, their genre is probably best described as shoegaze in the tradition of bands like Dinosaur Jr and Jesus & Mary Chain. Nothing has a distortion-heavy, lo-fi quality while also invoking a certain neo-psychedelic vibe. While their music has some electronic-based effects, the band tends towards the ambient distortion typical to the genre that audiences can experience with Nothing tickets.
