Nesbitt first studied piano at the age of four before starting on violin at the age of six. Her formal training started in Thurles, County Tipperary, at the Ursuline Convent. She then attended the Waterford Institute of Technology and the Cork School of Music while she performed with the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland. Nesbitt did her postgraduate work at the Royal Academy of Music and in London at Trinity College, where she studied under Emanuel Hurwitz.
