Liberty Flames Basketball Tickets
Watch the Flames take on Atlantic Sun competition with your Liberty basketball tickets from TicketSmarter. Liberty University is located in Lynchburg, VA, and is one of the largest Christian universities in the world. It’s men’s basketball program began in 1972. In that season, Liberty was known as Lynchburg Baptist College and played in the National Christian College Association. They joined the NCAA Division II level in 1981 and played there until they were accepted for Division I membership in 1988. In the early years at the Division I level, the Flames were members of the Big South Conference.
As members of the Big South Conference, the Liberty Flames claimed the conference tournament crown three times. In those same seasons, they reached the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament due to their conference tournament win. Their first trip to the Big Dance was as a 16-seed. They faced the defending national champion North Carolina Tar Heels and even held a lead with under ten minutes left. North Carolina ended up winning by a final score of 71-51.
Beginning in the 2018-19 season, Liberty basketball tickets brought fans to Atlantic Sun conference games. In their first season as ASUN members, Liberty took home the conference championship. Liberty made it back-to-back championships after finishing the 2019-20 season with 30 wins. They entered the ASUN Men’s Basketball Tournament as the 1-seed. After taking care of the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Stetson, Liberty faced Lipscomb in the final. In the rematch of the 2019 championship game, Liberty was able to defend its title and reach the NCAA Tournament in consecutive years.
Liberty is one of the youngest Division I programs in the country. Only Florida Gulf Coast University, which was founded in 1991, is younger. In this short history, the Flames have produced a number of NBA-caliber players. Julius Nwosu became the first Flames player to play in the NBA when he was signed by the San Antonio Spurs in 1995. Seth Curry, brother of Golden State Warriors point guard Steph Curry, also played college basketball at Liberty.
