The inaugural winner of the event was Jeff Maggert, who finished the tournament with a -11 202 and defeated Greg Ladehoff in a playoff. Starting in 1993, the event was called the Ben Hogan Knoxville Open, with Tim Conley finished seven strokes ahead of a field of four runners-up. In 2000, the event became the Nike Knoxville Open.
