City Noir Concert Tickets

Experience a classical music masterpiece with City Noir tickets. City Noir is a symphony written by composer John Adams in the late 2000s. The work is inspired by historian Kevin Starr’s research into inner-city California areas in the 40s and 50s. City Noir is known for its incorporation of jazz elements, as Adams drew heavily from the work of French composer Darius Milhaud.

City Noir is a 30-minute composition that involves three phases: The City and Its Double, The Song is for You and Boulevard Night. The symphony features saxophone, trumpet, trombone, horn, viola and double bass. The work was jointly commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the London and Toronto Symphony Orchestras. It premiered with the Los Angeles Philharmonic in 2009, where the performance was conducted by Gustavo Dudamel.

City Noir met with widespread critical acclaim, in particular for its rich layers and captivating melodies. Audiences everywhere hailed the piece as a fitting homage to film noir. In 2019 The Guardian listed the symphony as one of the greatest works of art since the year 2000.
