Blake is primarily known for his work as the frontman of the groups' Boot Camp Clik and Black Moon. Born in 1974 in Brooklyn, Blake began rapping while in high school. In 1992 he formed the Black Moon collective with fellow rappers Karim Reid and Ewart Dewgarde. The group’s 1992 debut single “Who Got Da Props?” was a charting success on the Billboard Hot 100, and earned the trio a contract with Nervous Records.
In 1994 Blake formed the Duck Down Management label with Drew Friedman, with whom he signed and supported future stars like Heltah Skeltah, Smif-N-Wessun and the Crooklyn Dodgers. In 1997 Blake joined the hip hop supergroup Boot Camp Clik, with whom he released the critically acclaimed album For the People later that year. In 1999 the Black Moon trio released their album War Zone, which featured contributions by high-profile artists like Q-Tip and Busta Rhymes. War Zone would go on to sell over 200,000 copies.
