Formed in 1989 Superchunk the group’s original lineup was made up of Mac McCaughan (vocals, guitar), Laura Balance (bass, vocals), Jack McCook (guitar) and Chuck Garrison (drums). The band started as Chunk as a play on Garrison’s name but added on the Super to differentiate themselves from a New York jazz band. In 1990 Superchunk released its first self-titled album through Matador Records.
Superchunk found success from their first album as it was critically lauded along with their follow-up 1991s No Pocky for Kitty. With Superchunk tickets, you can find a rock style with all the cadences of the 70s classics, along with a funk twist. Superchunk continued to astound critics with their next releases 1993s On the Mouth and 1994s Foolish. Despite a consistent bidding war for their talent, Superchunk always strived to stay independent. In 2001 the band started slowing down their release schedule after releasing Here’s to Shutting Up. With their legacy established Superchunk began making more special appearances than full-fledged tours.
