With all members sharing songwriting duties, the band consists of Jake Hirshland on guitar and keyboard, Javi Reyes on guitar, Dalton Allison on bass, Wesley Toledo on drums, and Matt Williams on guitar. The band formed in 2014 and self-released their first two EPs, Post Animal Perform the Most Curious Water Activities in 2015 and The Garden Series in 2016, before signing to Polyvinyl Records in 2018.

After signing to Polyvinyl they released their debut album When I Think of You in a Castle. In the same year, the band played the Shaky Knees Festival and Bonnaroo. In 2020 they released a new EP, Worried About You, and a new full-length album titled Forward Motion Godyssey.

See a band-on-the-rise with Post Animal tickets! Along with playing festivals and regular touring, Post Animal was also the supporting act for the popular band Cage the Elephant during their UK tour. It is also worth noting that Post Animal’s drummer at one time was actor Joe Keery, known for playing Steve on the hit series Stranger Things. The Chicago Tribune calls the band's style as “if Tame Impala listened to a lot of Black Sabbath and were signed to Elephant 6.”
