Jaffe recorded the first songs for Del Water Gap while at the Millbrook School in New York, where he had turned a storage room into a makeshift recording studio. He went on to study at the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts. Originally Del Water Gap included additional members, including the now successful Maggie Rogers, though they eventually left to pursue their solo careers.

Success on Spotify saw Jaffe decide to continue Del Water Gap as a one-man project, and the artist has since accrued nearly one million monthly listeners.
