Greer Field at Turchin Stadium broke ground in 1990 and was completed in March of 1991. It was named after World War II veteran Robert Turchin who spearheaded the way to build it. It cost around $12 million to build. It started the renovation process in 2005 but the stadium was nearly destroyed by Hurricane Katrina which pushed back the opening date for two more years. After the re-opening in 2008, it was named Greer Field at Turchin Stadium in honor of the chair of the Board of Tulane, Phil Greer. The Green Wave had a massive win on their new turf on February 22, shutting out Illinois-Chicago with a final score of 6-0.
