The team Valour FC was announced in May of 2018. The club joined the Canadian Premier League on June 6, 2018, becoming the fourth team in the league. The first head coach and general manager, Rob Gale, was announced on June 26 of that year.
The club is named after Winnipeg’s Valour Road. Valour Road is a 1.9 mile street in the West End area of Winnipeg that was originally named Pine Street. It was renamed in 1923 after the discovery of three young men living on the same block who all had received the Victoria Cross for acts of bravery during the First World War.
