One of the first pieces the Turtle Island Quartet performed publicly was Oliver Nelson’s “Stolen Moments,” which was included on their self-titled debut album in 1988. The group was soon signed to Windham Hill Records, through which they went on to release seven additional albums by 1995.
The Turtle Island Quartet rose to national fame in the mid-2000s, when their albums 4 + Four and A Love Supreme: The Legacy of John Coltrane won the Grammy Award for Best Classical Crossover Album. The ensemble has since collaborated with star artists including The Manhattan Transfer, Paquito D’Rivera and Edgar Meyer.
