The two connected through another band called Silly Kissers and serve as the indie quartet’s main songwriters. Drummer Riley Fleck and bassist Tom Gillies also joined the lineup.

TOPS gained early traction with performances at Pop Montreal and released its debut album in 2012. Tender Opposites, which was released through Arbutus Records, was tabbed as the eighth-best album of 2012 by the Gorilla vs. Bear blog. TOPS followed that with Picture You Staring in 2014 and welcomed Madeline Glowicki to the band as a replacement on the bass. 

The band released Sugar at the Gate in 2017, then headed on a European tour with a fifth member in Marta Cikojevic on keyboards. Once they returned home, TOPS started its own label called Musique TOPS with independent distributor House Arrest. They released I Feel Alive under their own label in 2020.
