DeCarlo was born in 1965 in Rome, N.Y., and developed a love for music as a boy listening to the songs of Boston. He began writing his own songs and recording covers of his favorite classic rock songs in the ’90s, which he released online through MySpace.
When the lead singer of Boston died in 2007, DeCarlo recorded and released a song he wrote honoring the vocalist, which attracted the attention of the band’s management. Founding member Tom Scholz then approached DeCarlo and invited him to perform at the Brad Delp Tribute Concert. His performance was so successful that DeCarlo was hired as Boston’s new lead singer later that year, and he still tours with the band today.
In 2012 DeCarlo also started a self-titled band with his son, and they released their first singles “There She Goes” and “A Better Day” in 2019. The band followed this up with their debut album Lightning Strikes Twice in 2020. They continue to tour widely across the East Coast.
