Achthoven first joined with Heyboer in 2014 through a mutual friend and bonded over influences like Moderat and Paul Kalkbrenner.

As the duo began producing music together, they began attracting label attention joining with Feed Me’s Sotto Voce label for three EPs through 2015. At the beginning of 2016, the single “Maandag” was released which quickly became one of the pair’s most popular songs. The majority of the electronic scene tracks Tinlicker for their progressive style with support from artists like Deadmau5 and Lane 8. In 2017 Tinlicker made their first release with Anjunadeep entitled “Soon You’ll Be Gone.” The duo’s first album released with the label This Is Not Our Universe released in 2019 peaked at the number one spot on dance album charts in five countries.
