The ballet tells a love story through both dance and music, with the plot taking place in a Baroque castle on the shores of Portugal. The Sea Princess is a collaboration between director and choreographer Kim Maselli and composer Eric Allaman. The original score was recorded in St. Petersburg, Russia.
The Pacific Festival Ballet Company was founded by Lori Sorensen, Kim Maselli and Joyce Hurley in 1992 in order to bring regional ballet to the Conejo Valley. The company also develops rising talent from in and around Thousand Oaks.
In 2001 the Pacific Festival Ballet Company was made the resident dance company of the newly created Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, where they now perform dozens of classic and original works every year. The company regularly features dancers from leading ensembles such as the New York City Ballet, American Ballet Theatre and the San Francisco Ballet, among many others. Noted for its community outreach, the Pacific Festival Ballet Company collaborates regularly with the Alliance for the Arts charitable organization.
