Sunset Rubdown was founded by Krug in Montreal in 2005. Krug released the album Snake’s Got a Leg on his own before filling out the band’s lineup in 2006. Later that year, Sunset Rubdown released Shut Up I Am Dreaming to widespread critical acclaim. The album was included on Pitchfork’s list of the best albums of the year.

In the years that followed, Sunset Rubdown’s profile continued to grow. Their 2007 album Random Spirit Lover earned rave reviews from NPR, Associated Press and Drowned in Sound. In 2009, the band released Dragonslayer, which maintained a top ten position on the Canadian charts for over ten weeks.
