The State Fair Classic is a college football rivalry game that takes place every year between Grambling State University and Prairie View A&M. As both teams are part of the Southwestern Athletic Conference, the game plays on neutral territory at the Cotton Bowl Dallas during the Texas State Fair. The game acts as a prelude to the Oklahoma–Texas Red River Showdown game which takes place the following week.

The first State Fair Classic was held in the Roaring 20’s game between Wiley College and Langston University. The matchup lasted four years before Prairie View supplanted Langston. The State Fair Classic is known as the genesis of "Monday Night Football,” as the games took place every Monday night for over forty years.

Bishop College took Wiley's place at the State Fair Classic in 1967. Prairie View A&M, however, continued to play at the Cotton Bowl. They would see numerous noteworthy matchups within the Southwestern Athletic Conference. By the ‘80s the university had bumped up its yearly game against its Grambling rivals to Dallas, and the modern State Fair Classic was born. Interestingly, the Prairie View football program briefly disbanded beginning in 1990. It would take two years before the State Fair Classic saw another Prairie View/Grambling showdown. Since then the rivalry game has served as the chief event of the Texas State Fair. The game is almost always paired with a pre-game concert that features a celebrity guest, a golf tournament as well as music and comedy shows.
