Since their beginnings in 1993, their unusual tunes have become widely successful with the revival of swing.

Throughout the years, the band has been on and off. Their first run from 1993-2000 brought in their original fan base and resulted in the production of 5 studio albums and 2 EPs. After some quarreling within the band and even the divorce of the band founder James Mathus and wife Katharine Whalen, the band broke up. In 2007, to the astonishment of fans, they announced a return concert with the one sentence: “Ladies and Gentlemen . . . They’re Back.” They toured for a fear year and produced their one and only live album before taking another break in 2010.

Now, the band is back and better than ever! They once again reformed in 2016 and have been active since then. They have released 2 more studio albums and as of 2019, their music has appeared in over 25 television shows and films.

Their music brings a feel of the South to anyone willing to listen. Squirrel Nut Zippers is enchanting with their ominous lyrics and moving beat, it’s quite unlike anything ever produced.
