The band is composed of Ollie Judge (lead vocals, drums), Louis Borlase (guitar, bass guitar, vocals), Arthur Leadbetter (keyboards, strings, percussion), Laurie Nankivell (bass guitar, brass, percussion), and Anton Pearson (guitar, bass, vocals, percussion). With each band member covering such a vast range of instruments each Squid song sounds like its own fascinating addition as each member pushes their creativity. In the middle of complex instrumentals, Squid loves to get weird as they experiment with their lyrics and interludes. The band originated from Pearson, Nankivell, and Judge performing together in a soul and funk cover band. Squid has a wild eclectic style citing bands like This Heat and Neu! as influences.

After starting with their debut EP LINO in 2017, the band’s release of their second EP Town Centre in 2019 started to turn heads as they began touring around Europe. In 2021 the band released their first studio album Bright Green Field which was highly praised reaching an 89 on Metacritic which aggregates data from most mainstream publications.
