The team was originally a member of arenafootball2 (af2) which was established in 2005, winning division titles in all four seasons and took home two ArenaCups before joining up with the Arena Football League (AFL) with their major relaunch in 2010. The Spokane Empire became no more when they folded in October of 2015 but soon retained franchise rights to join the Indoor Football League (IFL). They played in the IFL for two years before owner Nader Naini would cease operations due to financial issues. The Shock was reborn in 2019 when Naini sold the trademark to former Seattle Seahawks player Sam Adams.
