Shinee is a South Korean boy band that has attained international fame and had many hits on Billboard's charts as well as the Japanese and K-pop charts since they were established by SM Entertainment in 2008. The original line-up featured performers known as Onew, Key, Minho, Taemin and Jonghyun, but Jonghyun took his own life in 2017 at the age of 27, and so the band became a four-piece. They released their first EP 'Replay' in 2008 and made their album debut that year with 'Shinee World' followed in 2010 by 'Lucifer'.
One of the most successful K-pop bands and known for their highly stylized dance routines and fashion trends, they have earned domestic music awards and released several popular singles. Their 2012 EP 'Sherlock' went to number five on Billboard's World Albums Chart and the title track reached number three on Billboard's K-Pop Hot 100 and number four on the Japan Hot 100. 'Why So Serious? The Misconceptions of Me' (2013) and 'Odd: The 4th Album' (2015) topped the World Albums Chart, 'Everybody' (2013), 'Dream Girl: The Misconceptions of You' (2013) and '1 of 1' (2016) reached number two, 'The Story of Light EP 1: The 6th Mini Album', 'The Story of Light EP 2: The 6th Mini Album' and 'The Story of Light EP 3: The 6th Mini Album' all went to number four in 2018 and 'The Story of Light: Epilogue, the 6th Album' peaked at number nine in the same year and they embarked on a world tour.
