Runa formed in 2009 in Newtown, though the members hail from locales as diverse as Ireland and Canada.
Runa released their debut album Jealousy in 2009, which was praised for its similarity to influences such as U2, Mary Black and The Chieftains. The album was a runaway success, earning the band the Montgomery-Bucks Music Awards for Best Female Vocalist, Best Folk Band and Best Album.
In 2011 Runa released their sophomore effort Stretched on Your Grave, which again earned widespread praise. The following year the band would receive the Irish Music Awards for Top Group and Top Traditional Group. Runa has since released four more albums including the critically acclaimed Current Affairs and The Tide of Winter in 2014 and 2020, respectively.
