LaBelle along with Cindy Birdsong, Sarah Dash and Nona Hendryx made up the four-piece vocal group. In 1962, the Ordettes signed a record deal with Harold Robinson. He had the group change their name to Patti LaBelle and The Blue Belles. A few of their hit singles include “Danny Boy” and “Down the Aisle.” In 1970, after Birdsong left the group, their music took on a psychedelic soul sound they changed their name to Labelle. Between 1971 and 1976, the vocal trio released three successful albums and a number-one hit, “Lady Marmalade.” In 1977, Patti LaBelle began her solo career when she signed with Epic Records.

In 2014, she performed with Aretha Franklin at the Women of Soul: In Performance at the White House concert hosted by President Barack Obama. The iconic R&B singer was honored in 2019 with her own street in Philadelphia, named Patti LaBelle Way.
