Morgan Heritage is a Jamaican reggae band created by five of the children of esteemed reggae artist Denroy Morgan. The band was formed in 1994 and is best known for its international tours and award-winning albums, Strictly Roots and Avrakedabra.
Morgan Heritage released their debut album, Miracles, in 1994. They released three more albums throughout the 1990s, Protect Us Jah (1997), One Calling (1998) and Don't Haffi Dread (1999). In addition, the band toured in Jamaica and Europe throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
In 2001, Morgan Heritage released its fifth album, More Teachings. They performed at the Vans Warped Tour that same year. Morgan Heritage tickets gained popularity in 2008 with Mission In Progress's release, which included hit singles "Raid Rootz Dance" and "Faithful." Shortly after the release of the album, Morgan Heritage took a brief hiatus until 2012.
Morgan Heritage released a new hit single, "The Return," in 2012 before embarking on their 2012 European tour. The band debuted its next album, Here Come the Kings, the following year.
Morgan Heritage's big break came in 2015 with the release of Strictly Roots. The album was critically acclaimed by fans and critics alike and won the Grammy Award for the Best Reggae Album in 2016. In 2018, Morgan Heritage received a second Grammy Award after the release of its album, Avrakedabra.
