They quickly put out many hits, including “Hey Baby Que Paso.” After performing in his hometown, Baca was noticed by his idol, Flaco Jiménez. Jiménez then mentored Baca, teaching him traditional techniques as well as ways of expanding his repertoire. Baca went on to create Los Texmaniacs, hoping to keep the unique sound of Tex-Mex music alive. Baca also wanted to innovate using musical elements he had heard in blues and jazz. When Max recruited his brother Josh into the band as an accordionist, he taught him the fundamentals of the deep conjunto tradition. Adding Martínez on drums brought American grooves and Chicano culture into the mix.
