He was mentored by the opera singer Ernesto Palacio, who later invited Florez to Italy to assist him in the recording of his album Il Tutore Burlato.

Florez first rose to fame through a 1996 appearance at the Rossini Festival in Pesaro, which received widespread critical acclaim. He went on to enjoy several leading roles in operas such as Armide, Matilde di Shabran and Elisabetta. The singer has earned numerous awards and accolades, most notably the Peruvian Order of Merit and the Knight Grand Cross.
