The host became a MacArthur Fellow in 2011 for his contributions to radio, in particular for his use of the medium to explore questions of scientific and existential significance. Abumrad’s The Ring & I program, which examines the musical influence of Wagner’s Ring Cycle, earned numerous awards including the National Headliner Grand Award in Radio. He has since released a number of similar series, most notably More Perfect, UnErased and Dolly Parton’s America.
