The group's musical style was inspired by popular bands like the Beatles and The Ramones. Hombres G released their first self-titled album in 1984 with limited success, prompting the co-founder of their recording company to leave. However, they steadily gained a following and in 1986 were able to begin recording their second album, La cagaste... Burt Lancaster. Upon expanding to the Americas, Hombres G's albums were certified platinum and gold in Mexico and Venezuela. In 1986, they were awarded Best Spanish Speaking Group at the Bravo Awards.
Hombres G premiered their autobiographical film, Sufré mamón, in 1987 and more than 10,000 fans filled the streets, causing Gran Via Street in Madrid to shut down. Their popularity only continued to soar as they reached international fame. During Hombres G's first American tour, the pilot refused to open the plane doors after landing as 20,000 fans flooded the runway. In 1992, Hombres G took a hiatus after releasing their seventh album, Historia del bikini. They returned in 2002 with new material, and in 2007 released the album, 10, which was nominated for Best Pop Album By A Duo Or Group With Vocal at the 2008 Latin Grammy Awards. Several years later, they released the record, Desayuno Continental, which featured the single "El Secreto de Vivir." In 2024, Hombres G embarked on the '40 Aniversario' tour, performing in cities across the United States.
