It did not premiere until 2016, however, at the Victory Gardens Theater in Chicago. The play itself is set in an alternate universe and follows the story of Hillary Clinton while she runs for president. It is, essentially, “a play about the Clintons that’s not a play about the Clinton’s” according to Hnath. 

During its early developmental stage, the play was workshopped with many different individuals, since Hnath had asked for the production team to not cast anyone who might look like the actual, real-life individual for fear that they would be seen as impressions and not being actors in the play. In all of the pre-Broadway productions, the women portraying Hillary are all African-American.
