In 2016 the Florida Tropics joined the Major Arena Soccer League along with the Baltimore Blast and Harrisburg Heat. In their inaugural season, the team enjoyed swift success, selling out games and finishing third in the Eastern Division. The successes continued, with the Tropics again finishing in the division top three the following year.
In 2017 the soccer club expanded to include its first franchise in the USL League Two, expanding again in 2019 to field a Tropics team in the UPSL Pro Premier Florida Division. The latter iteration of the team would go on to claim the league national championship.
The Florida Tropics enjoy significant attendance and fan support, as the Tampa Bay area previously enjoyed a vibrant indoor soccer community by way of the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
