Allman was raised in Corpus Christi, TX, and St. Louis, Mo., by his mother. He began to play music when he was a teenager and did not meet his father until he was 16 but the two grew close quickly. He started his performing career in the burgeoning St. Louis music scene. While in his twenties, Allman avoided playing blues and southern rock to distance himself from his father’s music. He began playing blues and blues-rock in his thirties.

Allman joined the blues-rock supergroup The Royal Southern Brotherhood in October of 2011. Other projects that Allman has been part of are the Allman Bets Band and Ocean 6 as well as recording multiple albums as a solo artist and appearing with artists such as the Vargas Blues Band.
