After his graduation, he began as the lead trumpeter and soloist for the Count Basie Orchestra. He toured and recorded with artists like Paquito D’Rivera, Freddie Cole and Jack McDuff and groups such as the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band.

Stripling made his big debut at Carnegie Hall with Skitch Henderson and The New York Pops. He has been a soloist in numerous groups, including the Boston Pops Orchestra, St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, and the American Jazz Philharmonic. Stripling had the lead role in musicals like Satchmo and From Second Avenue to Broadway. In 2002, he was Artistic Director of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra.
