Founded in 1963, the Britt Festival Orchestra is one of the leading musical influences in the Southern Oregon region. The orchestra started with the vision of conductor John Trudeau and Sam McKinney, who wanted to start a music festival in the area. The first iteration of the Britt Festival Orchestra was a small group of volunteer musicians who came together to form a chamber orchestra. The group started out performing classical music exclusively on their small outdoor pavilion. Later, in 1978, a new facility was built to expand their multidisciplinary format.
The Britt Festival Orchestra provides a unique musical experience in that all of their concerts are performed on their historic outdoor pavilion. Each season they perform six individual concerts with the full orchestra plus additional events including chamber music performances and concerts specifically for families and children. There is also the annual summer festival which lasts for 20 days spanning from late July to early August. The Britt Festival Orchestra is one of the most respected and highly regarded musical organizations in Jacksonville and continues to enrich the community with each passing year.
