He has had a huge body of work since starting his recording career in 1992 as a sideman, and in 1998 as the leader of his own band, The Brian Blade Fellowship. Blade developed his passion for music while attending the Zion Baptist Church where his father served as the pastor. He first began playing the violin but transitioned to playing the drums in high school. After graduating, Blade moved from Shreveport to New Orleans where he attended Loyola University. Blade began performing with local musicians through the 80s. He has worked with musical stars from Bob Dylan to Wayne Shorter, including Joni Mitchell, Emmylou Harris and Marianne Faithfull to name just a few. As the leader of his own group, Blade has released over six studio albums including Mama Rosa (2009), Landmarks (2014) and Body and Shadow (2017). Today, Blade continues to perform live throughout the USA and Europe.
