The school is part of the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference or MIAC. The school supports nine men’s varsity teams and 11 women’s varsity teams.

The men’s wrestling team has been in existence since 1949 when it was led by inaugural head coach Edor Nelson. The team has had over 250 All-Americans in its history, with over 210 being named while the program has been wrestling in the NCAA Division III auspices. The team has also had over 55 national champions, the first being Pat Marcy, who wrestled at 150 pounds, in 1972. The team won the first of its NCAA Division III National Championships as a team in 1991.

The first year of the program was the 1959-60 season, with their first head coach being Ed Saugestad, who coached the team until 1996. Saugestad finished his tenure at the school with an overall record of 503-354-21, including three NAIA National championships and six IMAC Championships.
