After several more fights, he transitioned to the UFC in 2013. He lost his first UFC fight against Antonio Braga Neto by submission, which resulted in his release from the UFC. He signed with Bellator MMA in 2014 and won his first two fights against Victor Moreno and Brian Green. The UFC took interest in Smith again and re-signed him in 2016. He fought Leonardo Augusto Leleco in his return fight, which he won by decision. Smith defeated Rashad Evans when he made his light heavyweight debut in 2018.
