He played on the Chicago music scene before his self-titled band's debut album, Blues in Technicolor, was released by the Urban Electric Records label in 1998.

The album's reviews were quite good, with critics comparing the track "Misery for Company" to works by the legendary B.B. King and describing "Bad Luck Child" as being reminiscent of Texas blues bands. Other members of the band included guitarist Dan "King' Kahn, Brian "B.J." Jones on drums and Junior Fuller rounding out the group on bass.

Gomes has recorded more than ten albums, including 2020's Containment Blues, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Blues Chart. He also was a "Best Blues Guitarist of 2019" nominee in a Guitar World Magazine poll.
