The orchestra was directed by renowned composer, performer and musician, Idrissa Soumaouro. Amado & Mariam popularized their sparse arrangement of melodic guitar riffs and vocal accompaniment. Their sound fuses traditional Mali music with mainstream rock guitars, Syrian violins, Cuban trumpets and Egyptian ney. It also incorporates use of Indian tablas and Dogon percussion, adding to a vibe that is impossible to resist live.
