Ruban Nielson is the lead singer, guitarist, and songwriter while Jacob Portrait plays bass and backing vocals. Although the band members are based in Portland, Oregon, they have ties to Auckland, New Zealand.
Often categorized somewhere between psychedelic rock and experimental pop, Unknown Mortal Orchestra creates an experience with sound that makes their live performances vibrate through the venue.
